Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways
acknowledge him,and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6

Why Are We Here?

Why are we really here?  Because God created us, that's why!  He wants us to love Him and one another.  He wants all that we do to bring Him glory, honor, and power.  We are here for His pleasure and Revelation 4:11 reminds us of all these things - "You are worthy, O Lord our God, to receive glory and honor and power.  For You created all things, and they exist because You created what You pleased."

We are here to serve Him.  We are to use the talents He has given to each one of us to serve Him and bring Glory to His name.  It sounds simple right?

I love Steven Curtis Chapman's new song, "Do Everything."  My friend T. shared it with me before I recognized it on the radio and I honestly can't stop thinking about the message it gives to us.  It's what we were all meant to do!

Welcomed Affirmation

Writing this blog has brought me great joy.  I have always aspired to be a writer and I must admit that in my younger years those efforts were wasted on the belief that I could be the one to write the next best romantic fiction novel.  I have several boxes of drafts stored in my garage to prove it, too.  Actually, amongst all the paper is one finished historical romance called, "Emma's Lone Star Heart."  I've since learned of myself, that this is one dream that will not find it's way to fruition and someday I will find the strength from within to destroy all those silly efforts at "writing."

An Addition to the Cars Theme

We have another addition to the "Cars" theme in Caleb's room.  This one is quite spectacular, too!

Our niece painted these for his birthday!  They are paper mache letters spelling out Caleb's name.  The best part?  Each letter is themed after the Cars movie characters.

Aren't they the neatest!  I wish I had that much artistic talent!!  Thank you, Kim, for this really cool gift!

It's a Matter of Balance

This post has been sitting in my box of posts, in draft mode, for about a month now.  Why?  Well, I felt this tug to write it, but honestly I wasn't sure exactly what direction I was supposed to go in.  Then suddenly it became clear and now I feel able to just share my heart.

So.

Planking. Wikipedia says, "The lying down game or planking is an activity consisting of lying face down in an unusual or incongruous location. The hands must touch the sides of the body and having a photograph of the participant taken and posted on the Internet is an integral part of the game."

Caleb Quip #1

Setting - Family time washing the car in the driveway.

Picture in your mind:  red bucket full of water and suds, cleaners, hose with running water, brand new rags ready to get dirty, etc.

Daddy, mommy and Caleb all have a rag for scrubbing...

Caleb and mommy begin at the front of the car and daddy goes to the back.  Why Caleb and I chose the end with all the dead bugs, I'll never know.  But we did.

And Mr. Sanchez Says....

"Hey Band!   Friday 4-9:30 and Saturday 9-9 are Drill Day for the Tuloso Midway Warrior Band!  Mandatory," no get out of jail free card will be found if you miss!  Well, he didn't really say that last part, but I know he would have if he'd thought of it!

For those of you (and until yesterday I would have included myself on that list) who don't know what Drill Day means, well, the quick and easy translation is -- a lot of hard work!
Parents were invited at the end of Drill Day for a "Show and Tell."  It was rather interesting to see what is involved in teaching a LARGE group of kids to march around on a football field and appear to actually know what they are doing!

What a Response!

Rick Perry, Governor of Texas, took a stand and "blew the trumpet" that initiated this day of prayer.  If you're interested, go to the website and see what information is available now that the event is over.  The Response:  A Call to Prayer for a Nation in Crisis.  I heard they were going to try to have the recording there for anyone who missed the actual event.  I haven't verified that for myself though.

This day of prayer was beyond anything I had ever imagined it could be.  I listened to jokes being made beforehand (myself included) about having to be there ALL day, SEVEN hours, and FASTING!  Really?  They were jokes, but maybe they weren't.  It's possible there was a tiny part of me that wondered, can I really fast for 7 hours?  Can I really sit, pray and worship for 7 hours?

Doctors and Diners

Weird title, right?  Doctors and Diners.  How are those two items possibly related?  Well, for us they were related last Thursday.

Johnny's been having a lot of problems with his neck/shoulders, etc.  Bad pain.  And he wasn't really certain why.  After a doctor visit to our PCP he had x-rays and then an MRI.  Things were starting to make more sense.  He has Stenosis.    The only solution is surgery.  Remove two or three bulging discs that are pushing on his spinal cord and replace them with cadaver bone.

Our first opinion doctor, well, not going to reveal names, but lets just say we weren't really sure we enjoyed the experience.  FOUR hours in the waiting room on chairs that were unbelievably uncomfortable may have had part to do with it.  A bit of pressure to decide surgery or expensive shot therapy right there and then may have had another part to do with it.
